Why I don't love Mac.
1:58 PM

I took a look at Apple's website and started reading through the claims that Apple takes against windows of why they'll love macs. Well, They're ludacris. I'm going to debunk them.

http://www.apple.com/why-mac/

It's designed to be a better computer

I just want to point out how bold of a statement this is. First, they don't even state what they're trying to be better than. Better than windows? That's an operating system. Better than Asus? I love Asus. Better than Dell? That's debatable.

It comes with Software you'll love to use

I love the software I have on my windows 7 computer too. Software you buy is what makes it your computer.

It comes with the worlds most advanced OS.

On what grounds of proof do you have to make said statement? Should I give you the "most advanced OS" award? I'm pretty sure windows 7 is way better. But some people might even say Ubuntu is way ahead of the game.

It comes with award winning support

You mean award winning prices. Apple support is horribly expensive. And if you ask apple a question, will they answer? Doubt it. Check out a youtube show called Film Riot and see why they left Final Cut Pro X for Adobe Premiere Pro.

It runs Office and works with your existing PC files

Cool. My windows PC can do that too.

It's compatible with your stuff

Explain why I can't use my home printer on my mac because it isn't supported.

It's built to be safe

Explain? It has no Antivirus, No firewall, no protection of any kind. There isn't any safety at all.

It's loaded with the latest technology

Yes, any new computer will have new technology, that's how the world works, genius.

It runs windows and windows applications

To me, this is just selfish. But yes, Mac can run windows. Guess what, windows can run mac. The difference? You have to manually install a hack onto OS X so it will run on your PC because Apple refuses to release a compatible version, since they have to have people pay money for their expensive computers. But you can most definitely do it with a little knowhow.

Built to last

In this they claim that macbooks are stronger. Their example is the macbook air, which they say feels strong and durable. I've used one daily, and they don't feel durable at all. They feel like I could snap them in half. They also claim to pay attention to detail. That must be why  on the same macbook air the hinges that align the screen and lower body were off center.

Charge today and five years today

Previous macbook I used was for 3 years. Out of those 3 years, I had the battery replaced twice. The batteries suck. The battery life is absolutely horrible. I get about 3 hours if I'm extremely lucky. Normally, I can get 1. There is no possible way in 5 years that I will be using that same battery.

Multi Touch Trackpad

It was a good try, Apple. But I find this to be more problematic than useful. Accidentally touching and causing swiping. It really isn't as cool as you make it sound.

Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse

First, these don't come with laptops. And you can get a wireless keyboard and mouse almost anywhere for extremely cheap. Is is really worth advertising?

MagSafe Power Connector

Probably the most useful thing about a mac. But in all, it still isn't useful. The cord is heavy, so a lot of times, it will unhook itself from the magnet. You need a stronger connection than just a magnet.

Ambient Light Sensor

You say this is to conserve energy? Well I hate dark screens, so why would I want mine to automatically turn dark?

Great Performance from every Mac

They use intel processors, the exact same kind that are in Windows computers. In fact, all of their hardware is from manufacturers whom you can use the exact same parts in a PC.

Thunderbolt, a revolutionary I/O

This wasn't revolutionary at all. AT ALL. Yes, it is faster than firewire 800. But honestly, how many people that don't run servers or edit videos for a living even use firewire? Almost none. So why would you need something faster? For the people who do those things, there are already faster cables out there. Speaking of which, my school uses Apple servers, I don't see them using your "revolutionary" I/O. In fact, they use a carbon fiber cable which transfers even faster. That's revolutionary. If thunderbolt was so awesome, then why doesn't every device use it?

Connect Fast. Connect Easy.

Here you claim to have wifi built in. Not very special considering that every laptop in the market does too. You also say that it's easy to connect because it automatically connects you to previous networks. Funny since windows already does the exact same thing. You also talk about using bluetooth that comes built in. Almost all Bluetooth devices come with adapters to plug them in. So what here is so special?

Do everyday things right out of the box

You say here that on windows you have to download applications before you can start chatting, emailing, or anything. What the heck? I don't do those things in applications, I do them in my browser. You say you get mail for emailing. Microsoft has outlook. Ical for appointments. I prefer Gmail's calendar much more. Iphoto for editing and sharing photos. Yeah sure it's useful but guess what? I can get tons of applications for free on my windows that do a much better job. And I don't like an application handling my photos to organize, downsize, downgrade, and rename my photos before storing them away in a location I can't find by myself. I like to do it with complete control. You also say you have Itunes. Well we have media player installed right out of the box. Does the same thing. If the people want Itunes, they can download it. Try installing media player on your mac.

Chat with Multiplicity

Talking about video chat. Try oovoo, it let's you do all of the things you're talking about there. Except it's cross-platform.

Find Files Fast

They talk about using the search feature on a mac. Windows also has search, it's just that people refuse to use it.

Next few you just talk about applications that all suck. So on, so forth. Better ones on windows. So on, So forth. Imovie always crashes. So on.

It comes with an app for downloading apps

This is kind of pointless. Why make an app for downloading apps? I prefer to just use the internet. Try it. You say you can install any app with ease. Well yeah, installing things is cake.

Hardware and Software made for each other

Here you say that it's fast because the software and hardware are made by the same people. Last time I checked, the programs that come on my PC weren't third party programs. You have Iwork, we have office. Still made by the same people.

Built to Perform.

Here you claim that you're OS has "unparalleled stability" because it's built off of the UNIX code base. Linux is built off of the same code base. So would that not make it parallel? Not to mention that Linux is free? So you're unparalleled in price tag, maybe. But honestly, a free OS uses the same code base as you.

Safety. Built right in.

You talk about sandboxing. Windows has done this for years. It's practically useless, because hackers can easily work around it. You talk about encryption, something windows files can do if they want.

Download with Peace of Mind

You're talking about how Safari scans files before downloading. Every browser does this. Every one. That's like advertising a car because is has 4 wheels.

Stay up to date, automatically

You talk about automatically updating things. Windows has automatic updates, too. So what's the big deal?

Protect what's important

Bunch of words. To sum it up, you guys are just saying things that windows also has, and treating it like you're God.

Imagine Never Saving again

Autosave? Yeah, most applications have that nowadays. It isn't anything new.

Set it, then forget it

This talks about time machine. A pointless program. It uses up precious space on my external hard drive to hide and encrypt my file backups so that I can't transfer, change, or free up space that the program took from me.

Network minus the work

Here is talks about networking without networking. No, it mentions how you automatically connect to a network. Just like windows.

It's accessible for everyone

You mention various features for those who are impaired. Features that windows has had for over a decade.

Well, this has been my rant.
